Getting close

Preparations are nearly complete. We hear of some panicing behind the scenes, and some fesh faces are going to join in for the first time. So it looks like we'll have a great time this year, particularly as the weather could be a lot kinder then last year. Here's fe pics to keep you going.

Barrels made

October 4, 2010: Have you planned your Carnival float yet? If not, you'd better get a move on as time is running out. Here's a picture to spur you on ... it's of members of the Tar Barrel team on Sunday at their top secret headquarters just outside Hatherleigh, where two sets of barrels were assembled prior to an excellent 8-course lunch being served by faithful retainers in the staff canteen behind. This year saw pre-assembled parts being used for the first time. Engineering drawings and technical photos are promised shortly so that future teams can make the barrels correctly without aid. These drawings will be kept in a locked vault all year as many confidential procedures are involved. Sadly, members baulked at our suggestion of Ikea delivering a flat-packed set next year so we'll just have to go back and do it all again in 2011! The barrels will be tarred shortly and torch making sessions begin in two weeks. Get working on those floats ... there are only 6 weeks to go!
