Village Hall Concert Sunday July 6th 1pm Meeth Village Hall welcomes Swedish singer/songwriter, storyteller, folk performer and multi-instrumentalist (and Meeth resident) Rosa Rebecka for a lunchtime concert on Sunday July 6th. In this special concert, Rebecka introduces a very special instrument: a century-old guitar which has been passed from mother to daughter for four generations. Played by Rebecka’s mother, grandmother and great grandmother, last year it made its way from Gothenburg to Meeth and was heard on Radio Four’s Saturday Live. In the show, the story of the guitar and its owners are brought to life, as the dramatic tales of four very different women are told through songs of the past and present, all performed with Rebecka’s trademark vocal brilliance and emotional intensity. Rebecka will be supported by a group of young, emerging singers from various parts of Devon, collectively known as The Resonance. The members of The Resonance have all been taught singing by Rebecka, but have voices which are distinctly their own. Their rich, intricate harmonies are a treat for anyone with a passion for the art of singing. Price: £5/£2.50 (14 and under), to include two-course lunch and tea/coffee For tickets, call Rose on 01837 810165 or Beryl on 810553. Booking before the 1st of July is essential, as numbers are limited!

Field of Dreamz - June 7 , 2014
Group of friends create a music festival to beat cystic fibrosis
A close group of friends, who are part of a group of very talented DJs, have decided to share their passion for music and the charity Cystic Fibrosis Trust with others by creating a Field of Dreamz Music Festival on Saturday 7th June 2014 in Torrington, Devon.
Many people don’t understand what cystic fibrosis is, or what it does, until someone close to them is affected by it. They soon discover it’s a life-shortening genetic condition – only half live to celebrate their 40th birthday. It causes the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, to become clogged with thick sticky mucus, resulting in chronic infections and inflammation of the lungs.
Georgina Wells, one of the organisers says it promises to be a great event: “The name Field of Dreamz was decided last year and it is a very fitting name for supporting and raising awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as many sufferers ‘dream to breathe easy’. Richard Heywood, the owner of West Yard Farm, Peters Marlands, Torrington has an ideal setting for the music festival and has a capacity for 500 people to attend. We have live bands all day and night on the main stage, and DJs playing all day and night in the dance tent.”
Audrey Williams, the regional fundraising manager for the south west says:  “It’s more than a music festival – it’s a family friendly day out! They have activities to keep all ages entertained from bouncy castles, face painting, games and stalls. There will be various food stands available throughout the event to keep your energy levels high and a licensed bar.”
Tickets can be purchased online: http://www.fieldofdreamz.co.uk Money raised will enable the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to invest in cutting-edge research to develop better treatments and, ultimately find a cure. It will also provide support to those with cystic fibrosis and their families and help the Trust to drive up standards in medical care.
