The Biggest Set of Tar Barrels since ...
By Geoff Hodgkinson, Co-Editor

October 23, 2017: The Carnival (on November 11th) is fast approaching and all around you can hear the sounds of floats being built and dances being perfected. Yesterday the torch sticks were cut by members of the Tar Barrel Committee, and later the barrels were assembled onto their sleds. This year promises to be special! 3 hogsheads have been accumulated in past months for one of the biggest barrel sets run since 2006! Each barrel measures 36 inches in diameter, which puts their combined height at roughly 1m 80cm in new money or 6 feet if you prefer. The sled itself is 12 feet long and 30 inches wide. It's not clear when this massive set (pictured with the team that assembled it) will be run. Yesterday, the evening pull was the favourite. We'll let you know as things develop. Meanwhile ... keeeeeep dancing!
